Hygge with others
Hygge is most of the time something that “you do” in your own home, alone or with your closest family if you have. If there are many staying in the same home, make sure to find a quiet spot in your house where you can be undisturbed or agree with the others that now we all relax, mind our own business and let “our minds float away”. You can also create hygge with others, invite family or close friends for dinner, but remember - only people you like. A hygge dinner does not, as explained earlier, include annoying, compepetive, dominant or negative guest. In many cases, skip your mother in law … Then make some great comfort food, create a cosy atmosphere with low lights, maybe light up the fireplace and candlelights and remember to keep the room warm enough. You are then ready to escape from the real world for a while - which means no heavy discussions, no politics and controversial questions. On some occations, make something together. Play a funny boardgame or cards without heavy competition. In Norway we have something called “klubb” which simply means club (a very small one). This is mostly for women, where friends gather the same gang once a month (or something like that) to have great food and talks at each others homes. The host each time rotates within the group.
